For more than ten years I have served as a freelance editor (and sometimes writer) and as a software designer and programmer. In particular, I have engaged in developmental, substantive, and copy editing of secondary-level textbooks and materials for teachers, primarily in the fields of mathematics and statistics. I have also designed and helped program educational software: online simulations for preparing teachers, web sites for problem-based learning of mathematics, and a game-like online forum for promoting critical thinking about current issues. (PHP, MySQL, ActionScript, JavaScript, etc.) My editing skills were honed during 25 years of teaching college mathematics, computer science, and mathematics education, building on a Ph.D. in mathematics education. During that time I edited the writing of students and colleagues as I published numerous articles, helped develop several textbooks, and presented many professional talks and workshops. Although I have successfully served as an academic department chair and administered grants, my current preference is to work on projects as an editor or visionary, communicating primarily online. My college minor in physics, my chemist spouse, and my biologist daughter have taught me enough to handle technical editing in the sciences, at least at elementary levels. My native language is American English.
