Factors that Motivate and Hinder Adults to Pursue Further Education: A Case Study of Prison Officers

The study examines factors that motivate and hinder prison workers in Nairobi, Kenya, to pursue further education. Based on a mixed methods approach, data was collected from 37 prison officers working in three institutions. The results indicated that prison workers are generally motivated by the following factors in their endeavour to pursue further education: career advancement, salary increment, career change, personal satisfaction, and the need to finish an abandoned course.

How Veterans Can Make a Positive Impact on Workforce Development in the Construction Industry

Based on in-depth interviews with six individuals and veterans in the construction industry, the study examines the challenges facing the U.S. construction industry and how the industry can benefit from the skills and talent of veterans. In particular, the construction industry can take advantage of veterans' strong work ethic, teamwork and leadership skills, planning and organizational skills, problem solving skills, resilience, technical skills, and cross-cultural competence.
