Political Candidate

Jan 2014 - Jun 2014 (5 months)

On January 9, 2014, I filed as a candidate for HD 98, the 98th House District of the 100-member House of Representatives of the State of Montana Legislature. I'm running against another candidate for an open seat and the primary election is on June 3. If you live in Montana, please vote! Update: In a 3-way race I got 10% of the vote.

This is my job. I sit at my computer each day writing, editing, and proofreading for others. When I've got a little downtime from that I work on my own books. And lately that requires more internet and social media marketing than anything.

English Teacher

Sep 2008 - Apr 2013 (4 years)

For 5 years I worked in China as an English teacher. I had to do a lot with reading, writing, grammar, spelling, and all other manner of headaches involved with teaching young children English as a second language (ESL). I was constantly using computers, writing for my classes, and grading homework for spelling and grammar mistakes. I developed my own PowerPoint games for the classroom, which I now sell on my website.

University Flunky

Jan 2006 - Aug 2008 (2 years)

This job was pretty simple. All I had to do was walk around a weight room and clean up, move equipment around, and look busy. Sometimes I'd have to work the equipment desk in the dungeon and pass out towels or assign lockers. Heavy stuff.

Convenience Store Clerk

May 2004 - Oct 2004 (5 months)

Ever go in and buy gas and cigarettes? Yeah, I was that guy for a few months.

Oct 2003 - Apr 2004 (6 months)

Did you know that Lyndon B. Johnson was a dishwasher in Texas? Pretty cool, huh? Well having your hands in $h1t up to your elbows ain't!

Bindary Clerk

Sep 2003 - Jan 2004 (4 months)

This was your typical copy shop setting. We made a lot of notebooks, cut paper, printed everything imaginable. Lots of paper.

Oct 2001 - Aug 2003 (1 year)

When you're in college or university you have a lot of odd jobs. I usually worked in restaurants cooking for people. I've cooked Mexican, Mongolian, Burgers, and...well, I guess that's about it.

Jan 1999 - Aug 2001 (2 years)

I worked in a federal government office. I answered phones, filed biology reports, organized things, made tons of copies for lawyers, updated toxicology databases, and all that jazz.

Office Boy

Jun 1997 - Oct 1997 (4 months)

When it comes to boring jobs there's few like an office assistant for an under-worked office. But that's where I found myself, on a high school work co-op job. It was easy, the hours were pitiful, and the pay worse. Better than flippin' burgers though, right?

Ice Cream Slinger

Aug 1996 - Jun 1997 (10 months)

I worked at a wonderful ice cream emporium that made dreams into realities and granted wishes an everyday affair. Many of my fellow trainees couldn't withstand the constant rigors of the job, the arctic temperatures, and the sprained scooping-arms. I held out, persevered if you will, and got that $0.25 raise!

2004 - 2008 (4 years)

TEFL (2008)

Chinese Education Bureau

This is a certificate that most employers in China require of foreigners wishing to teach English. It ensures that you have completed a month-long course on how to teach English as a Foreign Language (TEFL).

TKT (Teacher Knowldege Test) (2010)

University of Cambridge

The Teaching Knowlege Test is another certificate that many foreigners seek in China to bolster their credentials.
