I am around 60 years old and have been a programmer since I was 19, I have worked in assembler Z-80 ,6303, Dec PDP-11 and some 80486, c, c++, C#, various BASIC type languages QBasic,VBA/VB/VB.net and 4GLs (Accell/Unify, i4GL, xBase) on Windows and Unix. In the more obscure areas I also have worked on BOS Cobol, Go (GoLang), BCPL, Tripos. I appreciate the need for software to work all the time; I sell products under my own name, including a programming language and a business intelligence project. I had a long term relationship with an insurance company where I wrote a system in Access/VBA/C++ and an SQL Server database which ended up with over 2.5 million policies. Remember, if you get the data capture wrong, you can't generate renewals! I am happy to do web work, but I am better suited to backend or simple frontends. I even got involved in email marketing and ended up with a 500,000,000 row SQL server database. You can't solve the problems of a database of this size just by throwing hardware at it. I decided to retire a few years ago and hated it, so I am now looking to rebuild my client list.

Which Programming Language Should I Learn First? This is a programming language that I wrote to answer that question. Most programming languages for Windows are quite daunting to start out on as they allow the development of programs that use all of the capabilities of Windows and are supplied with many pre written frameworks. IPL sacrifices this flexibility but in exchange it allows you to write programs that look very similar to 1980s home computer BASIC.

PerBI (Personal Business Intelligence) is a data analysis or business intelligence tool designed for use by "normal people" not IT Departments and is intended for use alongside existing administration systems. Although developed after experiences with insurance brokers, PerBI is relevant to any business that has up to 20,000,000 transactions that it wants to analyse. If you do have 20 million transactions then you are getting near the product's limits and you will need a newish PC. Depending upon how much data you want per "line" the practical limits are between 2 million and 20 million.

Commission and production tracking database in Access

Ian is an Access genius! He did a great job on my program and was quick to respond to my changes. He added details to the project that I never would have thought of. I was extremely pleased with his work and look forward to working with him on future projects.
