The Way of The Samurai
Opening animation for a short doc about the Sengoku Era in Japan The Sengoku Era (1467–1573) was one of the most turbulent periods of the Japanese history marked by innumerous disputes between clans seeking the control of the country. Back then, things worked basically under the law of the strongest so the warriors played a very important role in those centuries. I think the samurai duels sum up a lot of what was that period of the history, so I wanted to focus on them in this job. Also in my head it was important that the whole animation had a typically oriental look to perfectly match the subject, so I got inspiration from the traditional Japanese sumi-e paintings to come up with the visual style for it.
