The Snow Town One - Themed Composition
The goal of this composition was to accurately convey a particular theme, specifically that of a snow town or village. Using the 'Snowman' theme from Earthbound as inspiration, this composition uses complex wavelengths to emulate imagery specific to this setting such as snow gently falling, distorted refections in ice, and a vast arctic tundra. I chose a 6/8 time signature for this composition which is commonly used in a waltz and gives the composition a feeling of fluid motion. A common practise for snow town themes is the use of sleigh bells for rhythm, so to set my composition apart I decided against using these in lieu of a constant arpeggio, and omitting dedicated percussion complements the fluidity of 6/8 time. The piano was added to bring the composition together with a strong melody, which switches places with the synth halfway through to play gentle chords and arpeggios. The melody itself is relatively simple and was written with the idea of a seamless loop in mind.
