With this site, I was hired to create a site which could be managed easily by different departments. Using classic ASP, I designed the site to pass in the main content pages via the querystring (everything after the "?" in the URL). This way the main content, such as logo, left hand navigation and footer, could be kept separated, managed by the webmaster and easily updatable for future releases. I also created a custom CMS (content management system) for the different departement's to use to update their pages.
Although the two worlds of web site design and web programming are separate and not equal, it has been my experience that they are interwoven and interconnected in many ways. To effectively program, the programmer needs to be aware of some design elements and practices. To effectively design, the designer needs to have an awareness of programming requirements, syntax, and browser related issues. Technically speaking, I am more of a programmer, but practically speaking, I do a lot of design!
