My name is Erik Smith-Ward, a project and resource management expert who has owned and managed marketing businesses around the world since 1979. Originally, I am from Canada where I worked as a consultant in marketing communications and organizational development for 30 years. I also freelanced and completed contractual work as a speaker, trainer/ coach, writer, operational manager and graphic designer for small to medium enterprises in Canada, the United States, Taiwan and Indonesia. I have a BA in Business Marketing from the University of Toronto with a diploma in Graphic Design, and a Masters in Communications from York University in Toronto. I have sourced a considerable amount of work from Freelancer.com and understand the system well. I have completed a lot of successful projects through this site, but that success has come with a good deal of difficult experiences. Now that I am running my own consulting firm in Indonesia, I have decided to change roles and ensure that services are provided THE RIGHT WAY. After speaking with many clients and employers on freelancer.com, I found that the number one frustration was poor communication, which often resulted in delays or incomplete projects. Nothing is worse than having a freelancer disappear from your project, or drastically decrease their working hours – delivering smaller and smaller amounts of work – or stop work altogether.
