DESIGN AND FABRICATION OF STUDENT FORMULA ONE CAR
The purpose of Formula Society of Automobile Engineering (SAE) is to provide students an opportunity to design, fabricate, and then demonstrate the performance of a prototype race car. This project focused primarily on a major redesign of Formula SAE car by determining its strengths and weaknesses. The design, manufacturing and eventually successfully flying our prototype was accomplished on time and according to the competition rules named as SAE SUPRA formyl knowns as Madras Motor Racing Event. Special emphasis was placed on engineering theoretical and experimental calculations. The team designed a racing car as light as possible in order to lift as much payload as possible while respecting all design restrictions. Unigraphic NX8 Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software was used to aid the design. Trade-off studies were conducted on many parameters of the student formula one car. The team designed the best possible racing car given very limited resources and manufacturing capabilities.
