Graphic design has been my work, interest and area of study for five years. I have studied three arts courses through two different tertiary institutions. I completed a Foundation course in Arts at The University of Otago, before going on to study Design at The University of Otago in 2008, and then Communications at The Otago Polytechnic. Whilst studying in these different institutions I was working as a freelance designer. Since finishing my studies I have worked for two agencies and as an in-house designer for a property development group. Whilst doing this I have been working as a freelance designer in my spare time. I have worked as the sole designer on multiple company identity and branding projects, as well as working as the sole designer on several company launch projects. The work I have been employed to do previously has been diverse, and ranges from projects within pop culture to branding for trade companies. Studying design through more than one institution has enabled me to look at design through a unique and well rounded perspective. Whilst studying at The University of Otago I attained a developed knowledge of design theory, and the design process. At The Otago Polytechnic I was required to complete more practical projects. This enabled me to put the theories learnt at the university to use, and analyse them whilst using a different methods and a slightly different design process. Through work and study I have developed a very unique design style. I am constantly conscious of remaining flexible as this is what allows me to practice good design.
