“So vast is art, so narrow human wit.” – Alexander Pope “If you are writing about baloney, don’t try and make it Cornish hen, because that’s the worst kind of baloney there is. Just make it darn good baloney.” – Leo Burnett Some place between art and baloney lies context for the things that grab at our attention every day. From my junior high school journalism class and the school paper on, I have always enjoyed the challenge of piling one word on top of another until a coherent thought emerges. While pursuing an engineering and business career, I always found opportunities to implant a few words on some paper seen by others. Stops in between included military service spent in the post public information office sending out news releases and variously sports editing and editing the post newspaper. Abundant reading time feeds my interests in politics, religion, history, environment and the economy. My professional career included 40 years in the environmental industry running my own company built on four patents. Ask me sometime what I think of the EPA and man-made global warming. Why Do I Like To Write?

Apr 2000

Why do I like to write?  I have questions, lots of them, all the time, all my life, which sends me on an answer chase. With proper research, I form--  Opinions which I like to tell people about. My most articulate method of expression is writing about them. Why should anyone want to hear my opinions?  Not quite older than money, I have spent my life journey scanning horizons, looking for detail.  I present answers in logical steps from premise to conclusion.  While a reader may not agree with my conclusions, they will stimulate the cerebral cortex. What interests me?  Politics, all kinds and I do have opinions. My life spans 12 different presidents.  Science by way of education and experience.  Religion, mine and those of others. Prejudice is ignorance out loud.  Sports, I observe in moderation but don’t live and die with it. As a participant, I golf but no one wants to see me do that.  Reading books, mostly non-fiction with an eclectic curiosity. Just finished Doris Kearns Goodwins’, “Bully Pulpit”. So what have you written?  It started in high school when I got that rush of seeing my stuff in print for the first time. In the army, I was able to finagle a job in the Public Information Office variously writing news releases, editing sports and finally the post newspaper.  Lately, I have been writing essays on a variety of themes for internet display with politics and climate change as predominate topics.  I also make a monthly contribution to our church house organ.  Part of my repertoire is a 17 page discussion of climate change issues.  More @ [login to view URL] Accomplishments • Education – Degree in Civil Engineering • Military – 2 years • Environmental – 40 years • CEO my own company doing business with Fortune 50 companies in U.S. and Europe • Four patents • As an active church member I started an annual interfaith dialogue series 6 years ago with Jews, Christians and Muslims.
