This west facing house is going to be built in a rectangular plot of 55’ x 24’, being located in Akkaraipattu, Eastern Province, falls into hot and humid climatic zone. To reduce heat gain various explorations were done after understanding the architectural elements of hot climatic region: The brick jali wall along with the conventional lintel shading was selected for the front facade. Both helps to reduce the heat. As the facade majorly needs to shade the central indoor environment during the day time. And also the reddish colour of the brick jali adds the contrast to the white coloured house. And the polished concrete colour shadings gives a pleasing look to the entire exterior view. And the building is structurally designed to have minimum number of columns and beams , minimum reinforcement and concrete required in order to optimize safety ,cost and also to maintain its architectural comforts.
