IMPORTANT UPDATE: We need to get this poster sooner than I had thought for some particular publicity deadlines. So though I don’t like to ever do this, I will need to end this contest earlier than the original time allotted. The good news is that there are already several great entries that we can choose from. But I still want to give some time and consideration to anyone who was planning to submit an entry… So the deadline for entries, at which point I’ll pick a winner shortly thereafter, will be Thursday, February 10 at 5:45 pm GMT.

Hi, everyone!

I need a cool-looking theatrical/concert poster designed for an upcoming stage production; part concert with a fun kids' music band, part light/video spectacle, part theatrical/comical play. The show is called Magic Beans, with the tagline "A musical theatrical magical and beanical family experience."

In the attached files, you'll find the main graphic (Magic Beans MultiLayer 2.jpg) that is from the band's album cover. We've been using that graphic for some early promo stuff for the show, but really, I'd love for the official theatrical poster to be its own thing, visually, and not necessarily use that same album cover graphic (though it is a cool graphic). So an illustration would be sweet. Or find some way to use the imagery included in a creative way. I don't really want to limit you. Have at it however you imagine, and I'll give feedback from there.

Note that this is a show for kids/families, but not really meant for young children or toddlers. So it shouldn't look "babyish." We're really trying to appeal to grown-ups here, who buy the tickets. So something visually adventurous or even psychedelic might be cool, especially if it also has whimsy and wonder that works for all ages. Maybe think Alice in Wonderland or Willy Wonka. Also keep in mind the title/theme of “magic beans,” so probably some beanstalk imagery.

You don’t necessarily need to use any of the included images, EXCEPT FOR… the two things from the attached files that we definitely do want included somewhere are the QR code file (princess QR.png) and the theatre logo (Princess_Logos_BLACK.png). For the QR code, the "get tickets" doesn't necessarily need to be on there. And I think the title text graphic could be good to use as is (MagicBeans_title1.png), but maybe not, if you have a better way to do that.

The final graphic needs to be 11 inches wide x 17 inches tall, 300 dpi, and a PSD file with layers provided (in case we need to update any information).

Reminder/clarification that you don’t necessarily need to use any of the included graphics. They are there to draw ideas from and maybe use, or maybe not.

EXCEPT FOR: the QR code and the Princess Theatre logo. And probably (but not necessarily) the Magic Beans title graphic. For the QR code, you don’t need to include the “get tickets” part.

I’m seeing a few different entries where in the phrase “A musical theatrical magical and beanical family experience,” some of the words of “musical theatrical magical and beanical” are emphasized differently or with different sizes. I feel like those should have equal size/weight/importance. If there’s something that I would think could be larger, it’s “family experience.” That’s something in particular that we’re trying to emphasize. Thanks!

  Not necessarily. Per my description, the *only* things we really need included graphically are the QR code and the Princess logo. Everything else is there to use if you want, but maybe not.
