The Goal of this challenge is to create a graphic to represent NASA’s power distribution system, Advanced Exploration Systems (AES) Modular Power System, or AMPS. The graphic should convey the two major themes of power distribution, and modularity/interchangeability that allows different circuit boards to be placed together, like building blocks, to create the whole system. AMPS is the power distribution system of the future, which will be beneficial to future missions to the moon, and Mars. Some terms to consider that may help with the design include: Modular Power Systems, Modular Power Standards, and Enables Sharing of Spares. The graphic will be used in multiple ways internally at NASA, but will have limited external/public use.
Background:
The Advanced Exploration Systems (AES) Modular Power System (AMPS) project seeks to transform future space power system architectures with a modular approach, standardizing the power system at the electronics module level, and validating the modular approach through ground-based demonstrations. The anticipated benefits of modular power systems include promoting power system commonality across spacecraft power systems, reducing the overall power system development costs, and improving the logistics and sparing strategy. The AMPS approach is extensible to the Lunar and Mars Architectures, thus further increasing its benefit.
The AMPS approach is to build a set of common electronics modules (i.e. circuit boards or cards), which are defined by the Modular Power Standards. When integrated with a common chassis and a backplane, the common electronics modules can be configured into a set of Modular Electronics Units (MEU’s). The Modular Electronic Units are then integrated together to create an overall modular power system architecture.

Submission Criteria and Deliverables:
• Having multiple versions of the graphic is desired within a single submission. For the submission, all graphics are required to include the acronym, “AMPS”. It is desired to have a version of the graphic with only the acronym, and another version of the graphic with both the acronym and the text, “AES Modular Power System.”
• Graphic must be 4 colors or less of your choice and you may include black and white as well. Please stay away from gradients, as they will not be able to be easily reproduced across all media.
• You must show your graphic on a white and black background. You must also identify your colors.
• Source File Requirements: All original vector source files of the submitted design. Files should be created in Adobe Illustrator or Inkscape and saved as layered AI or EPS files. Note that PSDs saved as EPS files are not true vector / scalable files and will not be accepted. All non-standard Windows/Apple fonts must be listed in a text file within your Submission Zip file. Include the name of the font and a link to where it can be downloaded/purchased. DO NOT include any font files in your submission or source files.
• Preview Image Requirements: Please create your graphic preview image as one (1) 1024x1024 JPG or PNG file in RGB color mode at 72dpi. Show your graphic on BOTH a black and white background.
• Stock Imagery Requirements: Stock imagery is not allowed in this contest. All submitted elements must be designed solely by you.
Judging Criteria:
• Requirements: Does your submission meet the requirements as stated within the challenge?
• Quality: Does your submission look fresh, professional, and clean?
• Concept: Does your submission represent what the project stands for? (ie. Depiction combines the power distribution and modularity/interchangeability)
Please note that NASA employees/contractors are not eligible for competing in this contest.
