The world is broken. In many ways. By many things. At the hand of many people, not just of late, but throughout history. Had any of the attempts to save, fix or redeem the world been successful, we'd have no more reason to despair anymore, would we?
Evidence and testimony to this broken state, and even the supposed cures, are visible and available everywhere. The Internet is rife with tales of woe, destruction, corruption, wars and strife for religious purposes, oppressive strategies by companies offering free services in order to sell advertising, Trumps, Saviours and second comings, and more.
Your job, should you accept, will be to write a short article documenting and referencing a range of 'reasons' why people have (or should have) given up hope.
Mahatma Gandhi famously said "You must be the change you want to see in the world" [[login to view URL]] The article will be incorporated into a piece that introduces a solution designed to enable people to BE the Messiah whose coming will redeem the world in the ultimate fulfillment of the prophecies, albeit interpreted in a somewhat unusual way. The only way this solution can fail, is to never start.
Your article will help convince people to give the solution a chance.
There are far too many examples of really bad things growing worse in the world today to wish for a comprehensive list. It would take up volumes and be too boring or disheartening for anyone to complete. Instead, the brief is to remain concise and to the point with due references. As for an appropriate mix of examples, I've taken inspiration from J.R.R. Tolkien's epigraph to The Lord of The Rings.
Hence, the brief is for you to document:
Three Rings for Religious things, who worship sky,
Seven for Politics and its halls of stone,
Nine for Commercials who're bound to lie,
One for all Mankind, returning home.
To Utopia, Valhalla, where only bad boys cry.
One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all and in emptiness destroy them
In Utopia, Valhalla, where bad boys only cry.
You are to avoid statements that cannot be substantiated by freely available sources, which you should list and cross reference.
Remember, you are writing about what people believe to be true, not what can be proven as true or untrue, and not what you personally believe to be true.
Also remember that this is not a difficult article to write, provided you have the language skills and aptitude as a writer. There is no shortage of source material available online and your brief does not require you to save the world or even to have designed a solution that will. That part I've done, and exactly because I know the solution, it has become impossible for me to pretend that I don't. That's why you have to write this instead of me.
Well, that and the fact that I don't write well enough.
