Hello, I have done a packet logger using C and Linux socket only. The code used to put a interface in promiscuous mode and capture all packets. For that program I also used a BPF filter(available in Linux kernel) to filter based on some rules (as in IP tables). You will need root privileges. If you have two interfaces, I can use two threads to listen on both interfaces.

Hi, I will provide documented and tested code. My approach would be to use raw sockets. Are you able to compile for that ARM server? If not we need to find a cross-compiler. Which protocols are you interested to print out (pretty-print) ? What about pretty-printing TCP, UDP, ICMP and for the other just count them or print their Ethernet and IP headers (if exists)? I need know what version linux on board, and brand and version of device. 1 Does he (linux) have "iptables" utilites? 2 Does he have "libipq" library? 3 If not tcpdump its mean what "libpcap" library not too? If Linux Kernel version 2.2 and later I no need any library for sniffing packets! I have experience whith customize firmware DD-WRT and Debian MIPS. Time 3 day may be reduced dependency of Linux version..

Hi, I have created a similar application - IDS (Intrusion Detection System). Which sniffs all the packets on the wire then based on the some parameters (rogue server, high traffic rate received for a client - i.e. possible DDOS) logs the information in a database. Can we use python's scapy library for this ? I used scapy in the IDS program that I created. Regards, Summit
