One of our company directors will be travelling around India (rural and urban) and will require a mobile internet connection (via 3G, GPRS, or similar). The project is to advise us on which mobile internet service to use in India and to advise on how to obtain the service.
Aim:
1. To find the most suitable mobile internet service for our requirements
2. To advise on how to obtain the service
The project should conclude with the supplier providing a written report with his advice.
Requirements:
• The director will be using an IBM laptop
• He normally obtains a mobile connection in the UK by using his datacard or via his PDA (HTC TyTN) which connects via Bluetooth.
• The datacard is locked to the UK provider and so he will need to connect via the PDA or via a datacard provided by the India phone company
• The selection criteria should be coverage and price – we require good coverage but there is a limit on price. The two will need to be weighed out.
• We have investigated the cost of a mobile satellite connection, which has been quoted at £5/mb. This is well above our price restriction (at 100mb usage per month this will mean £500 per month!)
• The estimated usage will be 100mb – 500mb per month
• The maximum budget is £250 per month for the service, but would hope for a fraction of this price (our initial enquiry has shown that Airtel offer 1000mb for £8). We would like to minimise the budget.
• Coverage is another primary selector. We would prefer to pay extra and have better coverage.
• We are a UK based company and will therefore require advice on whether it is possible and feasible to open an account with a mobile internet provider in India. It will be the suppliers responsibility to check this and advise on this matter.
• Advice on whether to use pre-pay or post pay service
• Advice on what is required to obtain the service
• If possible, we would like to obtain the service prior to the director flying to India (Delhi). Alternatively it can be arranged on his arrival in Delhi.
• Advise on all charges which we will incur.
• We will require the mobile internet settings, such as the Access Point Name, as required to connect.
The project will finish once the supplier has considered our requirements and reported to us with adequate information that we may fulfil our needs for mobile internet without seeking further information.
After the initial work we will consider the supplier for further support.
