Design an E/Print Book

Requirements for United States Naval Academy (USNA) 40th Reunion Book The USNA Class of 1981 is preparing a book to commemorate our 40th Reunion. The content for the book will not all be completed until after the Labor Day Reunion Weekend, which is 2 - 5 September. We need a hard copy and e-Book DESIGNER to take the content which we will have drafted and edited and put it into an appropriate production format. A. We have done some preliminary research and are considering both LULU and BLURB as our self-publishing providers. Our initial research shows that LULU may be better for a hard-copy version, while perhaps BLURB, with its more scalable reading capabilities would be better for the E-Book. However, we are looking to our DESIGNER to help us make the best selection, for both the E-book format and publisher. B. We are only considering DESIGNERS whose first language is ENGLISH, and who’s on-time completion is higher than 98%. Additionally, the DESIGNER’S overall performance rating must be high (in the top 20%), and they should have at least four years’ experience. C. We are planning to deliver the content in sections and would like the DESIGNER’S advice on what would be helpful in terms of delivery. For example, we can deliver some sections in their entirety, but others may come in parts, and the flow of content may have to be adjusted. Since the Biographies will most likely be arranged alphabetically, we are counting on the DESIGNER to limit rework. D. We will require interim reviews of designs by a few key members of our team. For example, once the DESIGNER develops a lay-out for each section, our team will approve the design prior to the work continuing that section. Points of contact will be provided once we have a formal agreement, and we commit to approvals with delays of no more than 48 hours. E. The high-level sections of content will follow the below outline: I. Section 1 – Class History (10 pages) a. Letter from Editor b. Class Organization c. 40th Reunion Schedule d. Book Committee Organization e. Patron’s list II. Section 2 – Class Biographies (150 – 350 bios – 2 per page) a. Deadline to our editors is 17 October, and we envision getting this content to the DESIGNER by 31 October b. 200 – 300 words, each Biography c. Up to three (3) photos each in full color d. DESIGNER must produce a clickable Index of Biographies, in addition to a clickable index of the book. Granularity of the index can be discussed and mutually agreed upon. III. Section 3 - In Memoriam (10 pages) IV. Section 4 – Our Times (20 pages) a. Will include a double foldout page w/timeline across top and categories down left side (Will need the DESIGNER to take raw content and develop this graphic.) V. Section 5 – Class Statistics/Survey Results (5 pages) a. A survey has been disseminated b. We will need the DESIGNER’S help to design an interesting way to display the various questions and answers. VI. Section 6 – 40th Reunion Content (40 pages) a. Pictures, will be photo intensive and full color is desired b. Other appropriate content VII. Section 7 – Demographic Information (40 pages) VIII. Section 8 – Advertisements – we may need the DESIGNER to ensure any copy provided will look appropriate in the actual book format. F. Request that DESIGNER recommend the appropriate number of revisions, and how they envision being compensated for that work. G. Final Delivery of the Project is slated for thirty days after the last content is provided to the DESIGNER. We estimate that will be 31 October 2021. We believe the entire book will be less than 250 and 400 pages, depending on the submissions we get from our classmates. H. We are still looking for a COVER DESIGNER, and if that is in your skill set, we will consider engaging the DESIGNER for that as well. I.
