XRD, FT-IR, BET and TPD-NH3 were used to characterize the structure and performance of the catalyst. Results showed that the catalyst was amorphous carbon composed of aromatic carbon sheets with –COOH, –OH and –SO3H groups. Previous impregnation with H3PO4 could promote formation of mesoporous catalyst. The optimized carbonization temperature and time for the catalyst were 500oC and 30 minutes. The –SO3H density and specific surface area for the catalyst prepared under the optimized conditions were 2.9-3.2 mmol/g and about 740 m2/g. The acacia mangium wood sawdust was also pretreated by alkaline solution for obtaining of pulp, which was saccharificated by Novozymes commercial enzyme and used for conversion into hydroxymethylfurfural by above mentioned solid acid catalyst. The integrated scheme for preparation of solid acid catalyst and hydroxymethylfurfural from acacia mangium wood is efficiency conversion of wood biomass into green catalysts and chemicals.
