REQUIREMENT : USING FUTURA TYPEFACE
You are required to design and produce a Type Book of a minimum 20 spreads. You are also expected to design the book’s front
and back cover/contents page and finally bind it for presentation. Using your type family you have to design spreads in order to show
the following:

3. Headline/Capitals
4. Text.
5. Outline version.
6. Colour.
7. Positive/Negative.
8. Upper/Lowercase.
9. Letter/Number and Letter/Letter combination.
10. Dont’s_how not to use the selected type family.

+10 experimental spreads deriving from your extensive research on the selected type family using for instance: texture, pattern, photographic elements, interaction with graphic elements, advanced complex grid systems etc.

10 spreads booklet + 1 cover (20 pages + 1 spread for cover)
OBJECTIVES :
- Aquire an in-depth knowledge of individual type families through research.
- Identify and examine design conventions/practice and evaluate their relevance to current forms of visual communication.
- Evaluate the observed visual relationships between word and image within acceptable design parameters, and develop an intellectual
understanding of space in relation to type.
- Produce visual work which suitably demonstrates an ability to use and specify appropriate technology/media.
- Recognize the use of typography as a translation vehicle from a written text and utilise the importance of type as image.
- Develop an advanced level of understanding through the use type in relation to legibility and readability for a continuous text, taking into
consideration the various levels of communication; conceptual thinking, visual impact, grid systems, typographic freshness and printing techniques.
You are free to experiment in any medium ranging from 2-D typographical solutions, illustration, photography, drawing to sculptural
and installation work. Typography and text manipulation and experimentation should be of a high level as well as the degree of
sensitivity to form. The work must produce one entity.
