Import And Convert PDF Files Into An Access Database Program Specifications and Requirements General Overview The web-based system will provide a simple interface that will allow the user to browse their directory structure and select a PDF file to import and parsed into an Access database according to the specifications below. The system must work with the sample files provided. Images do not need to be imported. Additional Details • Interface o The interface shall be a simple HTML page with a plain white background. o The interface shall contain a ‘browse’ button, a ‘filename’ text field, and a ‘process’ button. o The interface shall contain a ‘browse’ button that will allow the user to navigate through their computer’s directory structure and select a PDF file to process. o The interface shall contain a ‘filename’ text field that will be populated with the directory and name of the selected file. o Once the selected file has been imported, a popup window will appear containing the text ‘Successfully Processed’. • Access Table o The PDF data shall be transferred to a Microsoft Access 2010 database file. o The Access database shall be resident on the web server’s drive. o A new database file shall be created for each PDF file processed. o The Access database filename shall be the first five letters of the imported PDF file concatenated with the date/time stamp at the moment the ‘process’ button was selected. o The Access database shall contain eight (8) fields:  LineNum (integer)  Oper (text)  Description (text)  Part number (text)  Qty (integer)  ExtPrice (currency)  Labor (single)  Paint (single) • Data Import o The PDF file is essentially composed of three sections: preliminary information, data lines, and estimate totals. o The preliminary information and estimate totals can be ignored, as can the header and footer information on each individual page. o The data lines are denoted by the following labels: o The data lines shall be imported into the Access database. o Each individual data line that is displayed when viewing the PDF file shall be parsed, converted into the appropriate data type and entered as a separate record in the Access database fields specified above. o All special and unprintable characters shall be removed from the line prior to entry in the Access database. o Images do not need to be imported. o The program shall work properly with the two sample PDF files to be provided. Confidentiality and Ownership • Developer agrees to keep all information and data furnished by Contractor as confidential and proprietary, and shall not divulge same to any outside source without Contractor’s express written permission. • Contractor shall retain all intellectual property rights with respect to all materials related to this project. • Contractor retains full and sole ownership of all software products including source code and other related materials developed in association with this project.
