Troubleshoot Moodle Scorm

We need help identifying why the grades/scores recieved from our students are restetting if the student exits the activity/course or logs out of their account. We have had a number of students get half way through a 5 hour course, log out or exit the activity and log back in and they have to start again from the begininng. As you can imagine, this is very fustrating for our students. It has got to the point where we have to ask them not to log our or exit the activity and complete the 5 hour course in one sitting!
We have tried everything and done a whole lot of reserch regarding this problem and still can't figure this out. Please help!!
