X-cart Customization - Product Options (Advanced) for xcart

The current standard feature of x-cart allows you to select the options for a particular item you wish to add to your cart irrespective of the quantity you select for that item. For example, if you want to buy a tshirt which has "color" as one of its product options, and you select a quantity of 5 tshirts on the product detail page, you will be able to select only one color - which represents the entire quantity of tshirts you wish to add to your cart, which in this case is 5.

The functionality I would like is as follows: If a person were to select 5 tshirts, the page would refresh (or automatically change using AJAX) and 5 sets of product options would be available (ie: you would be able to select a color for tshirt #1, tshirt #2, tshirt #3, etc...) So in essence, you would have 5 drop-down boxes for "color", each one corresponding to a t-shirt out of the total of 5 which you wish to add to your cart. This should also have the capability to have multiple options per item. So if a tshirt requires color, size, and style - then these three option boxes should appear for each quantity of an item selected before adding it to the cart.

Ex: If I select two tshirts, the display would be something like the following:

T-shirt 1:

Color: (dropdown)

Size: (dropdown)

Style: (dropdown)

T-shirt 2:

Color: (dropdown)

Size: (dropdown)

Style: (dropdown)

Add to Cart | Go back | etc...

I am sure this would involve the addition of a table into the database, some additional functions being added to the product details + add to cart pages, and many template edits. Has anyone accomplished a similar task on their installation?
