SINGLE CHANNEL SIMULATION PROJECT You are required to design and implement an object-oriented solution to simulate the operation of a “single printer queue-single printer server.?? This is a typical discrete event simulation application. The purpose of your solution is to provide information helpful to time efficiency for both users and system administrators. Problem Specifications The single queue-single server printer system has one printer queue of infinite capacity feeding jobs to a single printer on a first come first serve basis. The system is supposedly up and operational all the time, but we will consider only the period from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm [720 mins] for simulation. Jobs are submitted randomly for printing but at a constant rate of, say, a job every 2 minutes. Jobs randomly vary in size and hence require different times to be executed. Based on available printer speed and capacity information printing time is known to vary uniformly between 0.5 and 5 minutes. Successive jobs are independent and equally likely. You may specify, or experiment with, other queue & server parameters you deem as reasonable. Queue & Printer Statistics The following statistics are considered significance for the evaluation of the overall time efficiency of the system. 1- The number of jobs submitted. 2- The maximum queue size at any time. 3- The time-average queue size. 4- The cumulative waiting time in the queue 5- The average waiting time in the queue 1- The cumulative printing time by printer 2- The number of jobs printed 3- Average printing time. Any other parameters you deem as significant. Solution An object-oriented solution to the problem requires that we map the problem space into a set of objects and operations in the solution space. The major components of the problems space are: 1- Printing jobs 2- Single printer queue 3- Single printer server 4- Clock which advances from one event to the other Each entity will be mapped to a class of abstract objects in the solution space. Details of data encapsulation and the decomposition of the problem into objects and operations have been given in the class. SEE ATTACHED FILE FOR COMPLETE DESRIPTION ~~~ ## Deliverables 1-Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done. 2-Installation package that will install the software (in ready-to-run condition) on the platform(s) specified in this bid request. 3-Complete ownership and distribution copyrights to all work purchased. 4- Fully describe the problem and the system administrators perspective on the application. 5- Specify the required inputs to the application and the statistics necessary to provide information helpful to time efficiency for both users and systems administrators. 6- Describe the problem space and the functions-actions of its various components-actors. 7- Show how these components-actors may be mapped onto appropriate classes in the solution space. Give a complete and detailed class diagram of the solution space. Specify the private, public, & protected data and functions of each class. 8- Implement your solution using C++. Run your code & provide the collected statistics. Comment on your implementation and the results obtained. The results obtained must be generated by the developed code. 9- Submit a written report that includes all of the above. The report must include a complete listing of the C++ code developed and the results obtained. DEADLINE: MARCH 12, 2003 ## Platform It should be able to run on Win 98 and higher, and shoul be written in C++.. The report should be savedas a .rtf file, able to be viewed in MS WORD
