Scanning books into PDF format

I need 2 books scanned for personal use, not for business. Printed books are thick and heavy and not portable. The books can be converted into PDF or preferably Microsoft reader format. Each book is about 1200 pages. Sending books by mail is slow and expensive so the books need to be acquired locally
