The task is to install a search engine program on my search engine/directory web site. Using Perl as the interpreter programming language, the Software Product is basically a set of source code written in a text file with the file extension either ".pl" or ".cgi". I have a domain hosted on an Apache/1.3.19 server using RedHat 7.1, FreeBSD, with CGI access, Perl 5, php, FTP access, FrontPage extensions, etc. Once the program is installed and the site is running, I may request a little bit of support (via email). I'm mostly pretty good at learning things as I go, but I am not very familiar with coding or scripts and may need to ask a few questions. I bought the program for the search engine. The following is a description. The program is named the Macurious Spider, and I have the installation manual and lots of documentation about it I can forward to you. Unlike the self-executable programs, it is not a compiled program but more accurately a CGI script written in text. The Software Product is designed in that way and it meant to be used as Common Gateway Interface (CGI) on a Web Server. Once the Software Product is properly installed on a server, it can be used as a Search Engine to search URLs (Uniform Resource Locator) from databases generated by the software itself. The Software Product consists of two main programs, the Search Module and the Admin Module. The file "[login to view URL]" is the main program to be executed when visitors of one's web site enter a keyword to search the databases on that web site where the program is installed. On the other hand, "[login to view URL]" is the program to be used to create, edit, delete or manipulate the databases. For security purpose, only the Webmaster grants access to the administration page and it is password protected. The databases for this Search Engine are generated in form of text file with file extension ".txt" and they are stored on the Web Server's storage device. These databases keep the information such as the full path of the URL address, page title, descriptions and keywords of the URLs. ## Deliverables Web site needs to be functioning with the template default home page. Conversely, if there is an insurmountable problem caused by the software, the server, or a combination of the two, a clear description of the root cause of the problem will be satisfactory and will earn full payment. ## Deadline information I would like to have it functioning by 12 September 2001, so I can complete testing by 14 September.
