The goal is to compare prices from different vendors getting the best price/availability relation.
We're a computer reseller and have many vendors or suppliers that provide a lot of products, many of them are the same products and some of them are unique per vendor.
When we get a quote from a customer, we need to manually check, one by one, pricing and availability from different vendors in order to get the best price of the same product. How this gets done is by accessing their websites and performing this task.
Additionally, many of our suppliers provide a text based price list that can be downloaded with the updated info at the time of the download.
I see two approaches for this project that I'd like to discuss:
Approach 1: Use text based price lists to compare the prices from different vendors. You should be able to configure how often you can update the price file for each vendor.
Approach 2: Instead of using static text based price lists that have to be updated once every determined period of time (hour, day), this tool could be configured to access in real time their prices and stock via a specific service for each vendor (some have an XML interface, some have Web Services, etc).
Additional funcionalities expected are: Detect those products that have a significant price difference with the rest of the vendors. Say vendors 1,2,3,4 and 5 all have product ABC. The difference in ABC's cost between vendors 2,3,4 and 5 is less than 5% but vendor 1 has a 30% cost difference. I'd like to select the minimum cost difference and display those select differeciated products, it's cost, vendor and stock.
We expect this to work on a restricted web page where you'd need to log in to access this application and be able to add and remove vendors.
Some vendors (CVA for example) display their products in two different currencies (MXN and USD), so it would need to be updated on a daily basis in order to compare with the same base.
Attached you'll find an Excel file with two sheets. This is an example of how the data would be. I'm showing now two different vendors but the application would need to be prepared to use more than two.
