We require a simple legal case management system which has been written in Visual Basic 6 to be ported over to Visual Basic .Net (2005).
The project consists of around 100 files, structured in a single .EXE project with about 35000 lines of code in total.
The project does run through the VB.Net Conversion Wizard, but it produces a number of issues which need to be resolved. As far as we have ascertained almost all of these should be straightforward to resolve, if a little fiddly in some cases. It appears that most of the errors relate to lazy typing in the VB6 app - e.g. many strings were dimensioned as objects - and missing default properties.
I have attached the generated comments in relation to the automated upgrade. I am also happy to make both the VB code and the converted VB.Net code available on request to anybody interested in bidding, I just don't want to make this freely available to everybody.
The application is inherrently simple, and references only Microsoft components, so there shouldn't be any particular difficulties.
As well as upgrading to VB 2005, we also require :
- The code to be inspected, tidied (with TODO comments removed), and commented in appropriate areas with XML comment headers.
- Literal SQL generated at the GUI level to be abstracted out into a new class.
- The application to be tested in all areas, and be at least as reliable as the VB6 original
Hence your bid should include this work as well.
As far as I can see, this should be straightforward and I'm hoping it can be done for much less than the $5000 quoted.
We have a Virtual PC image available to the winning bidder containing all of the source code, plus Visual Basic 6 and Visual Studio 2005, with the build environments all set up and working, so there won't be any headache in getting up and running.
