Mysqli Error fix

I have some code in PHP pulling out some data with mysqli from the database. I've just updated the MySql to 5.7 which has caused me an issue when running the following code:
$getteacherpoints = "SELECT *, SUM(total) AS 'TotalPoints' FROM ".mysqli_real_escape_string($conn, $teacherpoints)." WHERE Week(timestamp)='".mysqli_real_escape_string($conn, $weeknumber)."' AND classcode='".mysqli_real_escape_string($conn, $classcode)."' AND YEAR(timestamp)='".mysqli_real_escape_string($conn, $year)."' GROUP BY studentid ORDER BY TotalPoints DESC";
Error coming from MySql system is:
which is not functionally dependent on columns in GROUP BY clause; this is incompatible with sql_mode=only_full_group_by
