Transfer data from AS400 database to SQL Server database

Any fees associated with an AS/400 will not "nominal." Unless you work for the US government. So you are really suffering, I can understand. Please do not award now just wait few more days. I just want to make sure what is there in the project to take care of this project. I know you shared me the application but it seems hebrew to me as there is so many databases and the main pain is language. Nonetheless, I can not connect to DB so this is useless in this moment to me. I can only see some data, that's all. Sorry, I like to be straight forward because it helps to reduce future mis-understandings. I would recommend to port this databases (Not the application) manually, why? See below the reason: - You will need to export the data from the database, you need to do an EBCDIC -> ascii translation, process the export so that it will import into SQL server. This is not at all easy work around - You can use any third party tools but it would kill your project budget. - You can go for a script which will connect to the AS database and will import data to sql server, it would costyou too. So, better to start the application from scratch and build the DB in Sql server, shat is your thought on this? Can you please give me a brief what exactly are you looking for in the log file? I can understand it needs to log the execution but should need to write any intermediate state as well? I need your highly co-operation to understand it properly, so waiting for your message.

Hello My proposal is this. I will write a VB.NET application (is the asp mandatory ?) which will update the Tables. All the sql code will be on Stored Procedures in MSSQL Server. i will create a form in VB in which you will select the SP you want to execute. If the sp has parameters the form will ask for these parameters and then pass to the SP. The sp will log every step in a table and you will be able to see the results per sp / date. Of cource it is a must you have created the linked server. Kind Regards George

Good morning, I have read your project description and understand what your trying to achieve. I have current experience of working with asp.net and both db2 on the AS400 as well as SQL Server. I have written a number of ASP.NET web applications that interface directly with the AS400 to read and write data - so I beleive that I have the relevant skills to complete your task. You have mentioned linked servers, can I suggest that for performance you abandon this idea and instead interface directly with your AS400 using the IBM provider for .NET and of course the SQL server providers are included as part of .NET. I wold like to confirm a couple of things : the SQL server is set and running, so you will provide connection string credentials for the Web application ? the "local tables" will be in the local Access database you provided ?
