A physician who is on our company's medical advisory board runs a successful weight loss clinic in Florida. She has a substantial Excel file with 3 years of data on the 250–275 patients who have walked into her clinic in the last 3 years with the intention to lose weight - the data include measurements of glucose, insulin sensitivity, lipids, and a range of nutrient deficiencies. Her initial analysis indicates that 89% had insulin resistance (90% of men and 100% of women). She does nto have the time to analyze the other data. We want to support additional work by hiring someone to look at magnesium, B12 levels, other biochemical and/or nutritional test results, in an attempt to identify highly prevalent features, and potentially report the results in a publication (letter, editorial or marketing piece for our company). The doctor did not track any of the individuals over time in this data set, so this project strictly involves determination of prevalence of blood levels of various analytes and nutrient status among overweight patients (n= 250-275) at their initial visit. As a nutritional supplement company, we would ideally like to say "X percent of overweight patients in this sample had vitamin B12 levels below Y" and possibly break it down into gender, age, weight, other factors.
