Following the foot-steps of Dr. D. Floreano and Dr. S. Nolfi, I focused on the development of a Neural Controller which could learn the task of obstacle avoidance. I, instead of evolving artificial neural networks with fixed weights, evolved learning rules and learning rates of the synapses. Each neurocontroller started with weights randomly initialized and those weights changed online when the robot moved, according to the learning rules specified in the chromosomes.
