I work on a number of personal IT projects (econometrics, robotics, etc) that all involve the display of data using charts in one form or another, either static or in real time. The kind of charts I require are typically timeseries charts, XY plots, polar, but could extend to other types. The requirement is for an application that can display such charts. What I need is a 'chart server' that simply displays charts, statically or in real-time, for any of the clients that are connected to it. Connection should be via a network socket. Hence, the clients (typically console c/c++ apps) can focus on computations, they rely on the chart server to handle the display. I do not intend to distribute this work, it is only for personal non-commerical use. #...

Situation: Have two computers running Windows XP have a us robotics router. Everything is wired, (not wireless) Have firewalls installed on both computers. Have a printer hooked up to one computer. Instead of reverse engineering the hardware and interfacing directly with the stepper motors I would like to use the existing control system. My hope is that someone with expertise in writing TWAIN or similiar drivers knows of a way to control the position of the scanner head. I would like to create a device that will alow my webcam to track my head, and rotate the cam accordingly. The robotics section of this project is no problem, but it's the headtracking software part i need. My project will be in VB.Net, so I would like the code to be in VB.net, but in case this would be too slow, a C++/C DLL will do. As long as it will work with VB.Net 2003. So what I want is: An example application using DirectX to capture webcam video, and a class/sub/DLL to find my head in the streaming video (eg by drawing a circle around it). 3rd party software may be used, as long as you tell me and as long as it's free.
