I need you to help with a Drupal 7 site that is meant to be used by very low-tech users, who will be confused by the many options visible in the standard Drupal back end interface.
Your primary job, then, is to simplify the back end of this site, in particular the way that images are added. This will require customization. I am open to other ideas for the interface to add inline images. One idea is included below.
Your secondary job will be to briefly document how you accomplished this, so that I can apply your solution to other sites. The documentation just needs to list the modules, content types, image styles, etc., that you used, along with configuration and definition information.
Here is an idea of what simplification means:
For the role "site owner":
1. The only items on the tool bar should be:
add content | find content | username | logout
2. The only content type on the "add content" page (for now) should be:
page
3. The only items on the "Create page" page should be:
a. Title
b. Body (with a wysiwyg editor with a pared-down set of formatting buttons)
c. Image (allow up to 2 images per page) with upload.
- Four sizes available per image, chosen via radio buttons: thumbnail, medium, large, full)
- Fields for each image include:
* alt text
* title
* size (chosen via radio buttons: _thumbnail, _medium, _large, _full)
* caption (It would be great if "caption" were implemented as a checkbox "__ with caption" that, when checked, would reveal the caption text field. But this is not strictly necessary.)
* link URL (with checkbox for "__ open in new window"). (It would be great if "link" were implemented as a checkbox "__ with link" that, when checked, would reveal the link text field and "__ open in new window" checkbox. But this is not strictly necessary. Or perhaps the caption and link options would be revealed in an area on the form called "other image options".)
* "Display" with radio buttons for "_top, _bottom".
* "Align" with radio boxes for "_left, _right, _center").
NOTE: Images will display INLINE WITH TEXT at either the top or the bottom of the page text, aligned as chosen. Caption will be displayed with appropriate CSS with an appropriate border around the field, as in Wordpress.
d. Menu settings (with the customary vertical tab content, including the checkbox "__ provide a menu link" that expands to show "Menu link title," etc.)
e. Publishing options (with only one checkbox: "__ published")
I am open to other ideas for how to best add and format images. It's not vital to have complete control of where the image is placed (although that would be nice!). It IS vital to have a very simple interface that still allows some degree of control. The back-end interface should not look confusing to a novice.
This site is on a Ubuntu 10.4 server controlled by Aegir. The platform is Drupal 7.7.
Sir, I'm a drupal expert and I can do this project very easily. Also, I can start off right away since I've not taken any other projects as of now. Please let me know soon!
I can do the job accurately. I had a similar experience in my work.
I have 2 years experience in developing drupal projects (6, 7 versions). I will do everything professionally.
