The scheme will be a practical mechanical building services design which will include details completed to a level that would enable a contractor produce a tender price. In all areas of the design sustainability and energy efficiency should be fully considered and integrated. CAD plans and images will be provided. Water Supplies Design a scheme to supply hot and cold water (including drinking water) to all necessary areas. Size and select all plant and design the layout. Space Heating Develop a strategy for heating the building to satisfy human thermal comfort requirements and any other requirements. Size and select all plant, heat emitters etc. and design the layout of the system. Integrate the heating system with the hot water supply system as necessary. Ventilation Develop a ventilation strategy for the building and design a ventilation system to achieve this. There are certain specialist requirements for this building so these should be investigated and addressed. Integrate your system with natural ventilation system wherever possible. Air conditioning Determine which areas of the building will require air conditioning and carry out detailed design of these systems. The task should include the following: • A review of the building’s services requirements and an assessment of its thermal performance, to include summaries of comfort conditions for each area of the building and assessment of winter heat losses and summer heat gains. Use software as appropriate. • Descriptions, justifications and explanations of all systems specified. • Details of sizing and selection calculations and schedules of selected plant, equipment and ancillaries • Installation plan drawings and schematics of all services; • Detail drawings and cross sections where relevant. • Further marks will be awarded for overall presentation. General guidance In descriptive sections use an appropriate technical style of English, and check all spelling and punctuation. Aim to provide a commentary on what you have designed, rather than simply supplying calculations, schedules and drawings.
