Packaging Images in .NET

Atomic Entertainment, Inc. is needing a way to pack a large amount of images in a single file and be able to pick any one of these files during run-time in both VB.NET and ASP.NET. <BR> <BR> To elaborate:<BR> <BR> We have 500 images (of same file size, but this should not always be assumed) of a particular grouping subject. These 500 images need to be stored in a single file that will reside on the client or server (in the case of ASP.NET). When a particular file is needed (identified by an ID), the file is extracted by a method/function of image type and rendered as if it were not part of that single file.<BR> <BR> Requirements:<BR> <BR> 1) Need a method to take any amount of files in a folder and turn them into a single pack file. The ID of each image as it relates to the pack file can be the name of the file before the inclusion in the pack file.<BR> <BR> 2) Need a method/function (DLL) to take an ID and extract the image and return as an image type that can be easily placed into an image control without any extra massaging of the data. C# or VB.NET is accepted AS LONG AS it can be compiled as a DLL and inserted into any project as a reference. The method of storing the ID for the method to call should be able to be stored in a single file (XML) regardless of how many pack files there are. This means that the location file (method of storing the ID, in XML) should contain the location of the image AND the pack file name for which to grab for processing.<BR> <BR> 3) All source code must be delivered along with the compiled version.<BR> <BR> 4) A test example should be written (in asp.net and a .net webform project) to verify that the code is accurately written as specified.<BR> <BR> 5) Documentation/Comments are required.
