I would like a simple to use flash video player. It must be very easy to use on the user-end (with an extra emphasis on easy to use on the user-end). In the background (built into the flash player), it must use a bittorrent style distribution service. Meaning, while one person is watching the video, they are also helping to distribute the video to other people who are watching it (keeping in mind that this is streaming style video). In addition, this entire process should be transparent to the end-user, who should not have to open any ports, or configure a firewall or router, etc. The main website server must have a way to help steam the video to people who are watching "unpopular" videos (either as a bittorrent or http server). But overall, the goal of this project is to provide good quality video streams to users with as little cost of bandwidth as possible.
For the player itself, it needs play/pause and stop buttons and obviously a window to view the video itself. In addition, it needs a track bar to track the progress of the download and the where in the video the user is at (in the same bar). It also needs a volume control and a full screen mode option.
The admin side of things must allow for easy uploading of video (integrating into the flash-based bittorrent service for the end-user). In addition, the quality of the video should be able to be defined by the admin upon uploading the videos (defined by vertical lines of resolution, like 320, 480, etc). The video needs to be able to be uploaded as .avi, .mpg, and .mov, and if any other types (xvid, divx, h.264, theora, etc) could be done aswell, that would be a bonus. The videos must be taken and optimized for this specialized bitorrent style streaming.
This is a very large project and will require a large undertaking. I will be running this project on a dedicated server, and will require instructions on how to have it installed.
