Vb.NET application that I would like to run as a web service.? Uses DevExpress Controls (data/Utils/XtraEditors / ExtraGrid).? It connects to a ACCESS database I connect using UDL link.
Is this possible do change the program to run as a web service?? If so how much and time.? I have a windows 2003 server and I have a VMWARE 2008 server I can run off to help test.? Would need help in setting up a machine to do so.
## Deliverables
Program written in VS 2005 and we use it as a stand alone application on various MS operating systems with success LINKED to the database.? We would like the flexability for off site users to connect to the application and connect to the database that the program is pointing too Probably on the same machine.? ? ?
Please ask as many questions needed to get a great understanding of my needs.

I Need to clarify something I think. The goal is JUST to run the desktop VB.NET application through a/an IP link: example [login to view URL] or something like that. My terminology of a "web service" might be wrong in this matter but I want the app to download and run on the users computer when they access it via the web just as they would if it was a desktop. The DB would be on the Server Side of the Internet but the Interface on the Client side. I hope this helps everyone.

I want to THANK everyone. I am having a meeting with everyone (on my end) to determine the best route for us to take. SEVERAL suggestions where made and this is only a few. #1) make it a web app #2) keep it as the program but change the connection string to use over the Internet with web service connection SO we need to make a decision of rewritting ALL the code to make it a web app (We where not favoring this early). OR creating an option for the user to connect to a REMOTE DB having our program already installed to the users LapTop. We where hoping to keep our VB.NET code intack with little change and the user would be able to just POINT to a hyperlink to run it but apparently there is more to it than just that. Please be patient I know this is not a LARGE project but we need to determine our direction. THanks Tom T.
