**_REQUIREMENT_** :There is a requirement to exchange information between 64 gergraphically discrete locations. The traffic between sites consists of continuosupdates of a distributed database together with e-mail traffic. Each site sends the same average amount of data toeach other site. The implementaition cost of the communication network must be minimised. The implementation cost of any link (one-way) can be taken to be the product of its length and its capacity (not its load ).
**_TECHNOLOGIES:_**The following standard technologies and capacities are available:
ISDN, SONET, DSO Frame Relay , T1,T3
**_cOMMUNICATION SUBSYSTEM SPECIFICATION:
_**MINIMUM SPANNING TREE NETWORK. aMINIMUM lenght spanning treenetwork shall be constructed to link all 64 nodes.
Hierarchical Network. Aseries of clusteers shall be constructed from the 64 nodes. Each cluster shall provide an intranet for internal communication between its nodes. A backbone networkshall be provided to link each cluster and to from the overall network. The capacity of each link in the backbone is to be the same. The backbone must be capable os syrviving a single-link-failure.
**_Information sub system specification
_** Each of the 64 nodes shall generate an average 1kbps of data ( 80% database; 20% email) to each other site.
## Deliverables
Rent A Coder requirements notice: As originally posted, this bid request does not have complete details. Should a dispute arise and this project go into arbitration "as is", the contract's vagueness might cause it to be interpreted against you, even though you were acting in good-faith. So for your protection, if you are interested in this project, please work-out and document the requirements onsite.
TASK
Anetwork design proprosal is to be developed to meet each specification set out above using only the technologies specified. Supporting statistical information is to be derived from for exampe the Opnet network simulation tool or by other means, to demonstrate that the above specifications have been satisfied. An independent ,theoritical cheek of the simulated networkperformance is required.
The statistical information relating to the minimum spanning tree networkin particular, should indicate the following:
- The total loading on each link in each direction.
- The capacity of each link in each direction.
- The overall cost of the network.
- The fractional loading for each link.
- The average delay of the network.
- The traffic flowing through each node.
- The most criticals links in the network.
- The most critical nodes in the network.
HINTS
Use the MATLAB program < network_gen_2.m > to create a set of 64 nodes and save the arrays and pictures it produces. Th k-means clustering and minimumspanning tree algorithms should prove to be useful for establishing basic network network topology. The M/D/1 queuing theory model should prove useful for providing the average delay of the network and an independent check of the networkperformance statistics. The cost contribution for each link in the network should be considered as proportional to the product of its length? and ? capacity. Calculations may be carried out using and standard means, such as calculators, spreadsheets, programming languages etc..
