Comparative Review Comparative Review of Articles

A comparative analysis asks you to compare and contrast two texts that discuss the same topic but have crucial differences or appear to have crucial differences yet turn out to have surprising commonalities. Two academic journal articles will be provided for students. You will have to write a 1,500 word essay comparing these articles: their differences, their similarities, their strengths and weaknesses, the validity of their arguments. You might consider the following in preparing your first assessment (due in 8 days' time, on 13 September): Introduction (200 words or so) Para 1: Describe Windscheid et al (200 words) – what did they find? Para 2: Describe Dobson et al (200 words) – what did they find? Para 3: Strengths and weakness of Windscheid et al (400 words) Para 4: Strengths and weakness of Dobson et al (400 words) Para 5: Reflection (200-250 words): based on own experience/ own countries. E.g. have you experienced sexism in the workplace; how might these ideas work in your culture. Conclusion Perhaps think about the following questions when thinking about strengths and weaknesses What is their methodology? Is it appropriate for the research question? What is their data? Is it sufficient? Is it appropriately interpreted? What could they have done better to support their argument? What could they do next? Individuals who can question the assumptions that underpin the papers (shareholder activism versus second/third wave feminism) and/or propose new ways forward (e.g. should we be talking about diversity or inclusion?) will get better marks. Also, note that the paper should be 1,500 words in total (+/- 10%). You do NOT write 1,500 words on each of the two papers.
