I got a machine with Ubuntu 10.10 and decided to make it a Wi-fi hotspot (Coovachilli). I browsed the Internet and found a good tutorial here:
<[login to view URL]>
I was able to get it up and running. However, client machines with IE browsers render a scary message saying:
"There is a problem with this website's security certificate"
I know users can easily proceed by clicking at Continue to this website (not recommended), but I'd rather the request was sent as a non-ssl one.
I googled online and someone suggested me to open /etc/chilli/config and replace
HS_UAMFORMAT = [https://\$HS_UAMSERVER/uam][1]
with
HS_UAMFORMAT = [http://\$HS_UAMSERVER/uam][2]
After the modification, the client machines can never again get to Coovachilli login page. They are told that the page cannot be displayed.
I believe this should be very easy for someone familiar with Chillispot or Coovachilli
